Deduction-based Reenement Planning
نویسندگان
چکیده
We introduce a method of deduction-based re-nement planning where prefabricated general solutions are adapted to special problems. Re-nement proceeds by stepwise transforming non-constructive problem speciications into exe-cutable plans. For each reenement step there is a correctness proof guaranteeing the soundness of reenement and with that the generation of prov-ably correct plans. By solving the hard deduction problems once and for all on the abstract level, planning on the concrete level becomes more ef-cient. With that, our approach aims at making deductive planning feasible in realistic contexts. Our approach is based on a temporal logic framework that allows for the representation of spec-iications and plans on the same linguistic level. Basic actions and plans are speciied using a programming language the constructs of which are formulae of the logic. Abstract solutions are represented as|possibly recursive|procedures. It is this common level of representation and the uid transition between speciications and plans our reenement process basically relies upon.

It is widely accepted that to extend the eeectiveness of information disclosure beyond the limitations of current empirically-based retrieval systems, some notion of document semantics has to be incorporated into the retrieval mechanism. A recent approach to bringing semantics into play is to found the retrieval mechanism on the notion of logical inference. In this paper, we build on this appro...

Software development encompasses many phases including requirements engineering , speciication, design, implementation, veriication or testing, and maintenance. In this chapter we concentrate on the intermediate tasks: the transition from requirements speciication to veriied design and design optimization ; in particular techniques for developing correct designs as opposed to ad hoc or a poster...

Proof planning is an alternative to classical theorem proving. Proof planning is classical planning with no goal interaction. It faces search problems because of long solutions and possibly innnite branching. It is also required to provide plans comprehensible for the user. This article introduces new planning strategies inspired by proof planning examples in order to tackle the search-space-pr...

At least two main strands can be distinguished in the design theory literature: that design is a knowledge-based process; and that design is a learning process. In this paper we attempt to relate these two views of design by showing that learning within and between design problems is a necessary consequence of a knowledge-based view of design. Drawing on work in artiicial intelligence, we devel...

Planning is a very hard task, so even reducing a spe-ciic planning problem to a sightly easier one can often be of much help. Many domains have properties which allow this reduction with reasonable eeort. This paper shows that besides using complete reenement, it can be helpful to search only for a subset of all possible solutions and presents examples of both strategies. They are demonstrated ...
